Realizing that staying on a low-calorie diet may cause me to easily regain all my weight, I’m experimenting with a slightly different approach to my Intermittent fasting. When previously I would eat in an 8-hour window and fast for 16 hours and limit my calorie intake to as little as possible, I started to eat a little more in a shorter window.

What I mean by a little more is I am aiming to eat until I feel full. If by the end of my eating window I still feel full in spite of the fact that I only had two meals, then I would not eat anymore. Previously, I would obsess over how many calories I eat. Now I am trying to rely less on counting calories, and allow my body to take over the decision of how much food is enough.

“Just by limiting the eating window to eight hours per day, people naturally cut out 300 to 500 calories per day,” says Dr. Krista Parady, Ph.D., Professor of Nutrition at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The first time I tried eating more, the reaction of my body was of course to gain weight. But afterward, I found that even eating what was normally thought to be a no-no for dieting, like fried chicken and burgers, can still result in weight loss when combined with intermittent fasting. However, that should not be considered a sign that we are allowed to let ourselves lose and binge eat during an eating window. The quality of the food we eat is important. I try to keep my original goal of keeping a smaller ratio of fine carbs in my diet.

We’ll see the results in the coming weeks.
