Weight Loss 17th Week Result: The Post Holiday Challenge

To avoid the Eid-ul-Fitr rush, we chose to stay home during the holiday and waited until a week after it ended before we go on our own vacation. Along with my wife’s extended family, we took a 1,124-kilometer drive from Jakarta to Yogyakarta and back. I’ll tell you about the trip in another post.

It is difficult to maintain a fasting window on a road trip like that. As I got back home Monday last week, I thought I could ease back into the intermittent fasting as though nothing had happened. It turned out that it was a struggle to remember that I have an eating window and that I must keep a calorie budget. In one week, I ended up eating in excess of my calorie budget almost every day. The worst was last Saturday when I spent the whole afternoon binge-watching over a bottle of soju and half a pack of peanuts. Just those two items cost me 1,107 calories.

My result on May 18, 2022, was 88.75 kg (195.66 lbs). These are my results today.

Considering that I actually lost 1 kg during what seemed to be an over-budgeted week, I am wondering whether I overestimated the number of calories I consumed, or I underestimated the level of calorie-burning activities I did.

For example, I estimated that for each sitting I ate 100 grams of cassava chips containing 451 calories. That’s a big number, almost a third of my daily calorie budget. In reality, I might have eaten less than 100 grams. I admit I did not weigh my food as faithfully as before. This is an oversight that began when I returned from Yogyakarta.

Yes, it is good news that I lost another kilogram. Yet it is problematic since I don’t know how I got there. I must try harder to keep my eating within budget, my exercise up, and my record-taking accurate.
