I’m pretty surprised to realize that it has been 42 days since I began intermittent fasting. I was a little doubtful that I could go this far, but here I am! My last weight on February 28 was 94.95 kg (209.32 lbs). Here is what I measured this morning.

Now that I use the Xiaomi Mi Body Smart Fat Scale 2, I’m getting additional metrics regarding my physical condition. Please note that the scale is by no means 100% accurate. But it is better to have some idea about what’s going on in your body than none at all.

Body fat is the amount of all the fat in your body. The normal percentage of fat is different between the sexes. On account of hormonal differences, women store more fat than men. It is natural for women to have around 6-11% more fat than their male counterparts. Fat is stored under the skin, which is known as subcutaneous fat, and in the abdomen surrounding internal organs, which is called visceral fat. The latter kind is the dangerous one if left unchecked.
Doctors measure visceral fat by using MRI scans and the result will fall somewhere on the scale of 1 to 59. Anything higher than 13 is unhealthy, and the person should immediately make changes in diet and lifestyle to reduce the visceral fat.
Carrying too much visceral fat can cause high blood pressure (this is apparent in my case) and coronary heart disease. Because this type of fat also produces hormones that change how our cells behave, a high amount of visceral fat increases the risk of developing cancer.
The good news is, based on the measurements above, during my weight loss, I am shedding visceral fat. I am still a long way from Level 13, but so far I am down one level from a month ago. Yay!
