2021 was not easy. For some people, in some aspects, 2021 was better than 2020. For others, it was worse. For me, 2021 signaled hope for a better 2022. But personally, 2021 was one of the worst years.
I lost my Mom to Covid-19 in 2021. We had done everything in our power to keep Mom safe as the pandemic raged on. And yet, there is a limit on what you can do. She contracted the disease in early July and died two weeks later.
Yes, there was a feeling of loss, sadness, and forsakenness. Mom had been one of my biggest supporters. She suffered from dementia in her last years. At times, she could not recognize her children. But she was always ready to say a prayer for us whenever we asked her.
Yet, her passing gave me a big wake-up call. I cannot rely on anyone else anymore to give me support. I do have family and friends. However, at the end of the day, the only person who will be with me wherever I go is myself. That’s what I am carrying forward from the experience into 2022 and beyond.
